PALAIS DU COMMERCE DE RENNES
L'Avant-Poste
In the heart of Rennes, the Palais du Commerce becomes a multi-programme complex designed for the future needs of the city.
The historical building is renovated and expanded by a contemporary extension. This architectural dialogue between classic and modern is illuminated with a dreamlike light. A vibrant constellation spreads across the roofs and façades, as if it was carried by the wind. The building shivers with a narrative light that follows the rhythm of the city.
From the luminous and welcoming arcades to the signal towers befitting the scale of the city, the light is composed at both urban and pedestrian scales.
As for the forecourt, it is subjected to a lighting that integrates the Palais du Commerce into the fabric of the city. Besides, the underground river (La Vilaine) allegorically returns to the square that has become aquatic.
